WomenGliding UK visits the Mynd!

WGUK recently made a trip to the Mynd over the Halloween weekend. Over 20 members joined us for a magical weekend in the Autumn sunshine, making good use of the weather to enjoy some winching onto the ridge!

We were extremely lucky with the weather, which showed the Mynd off perfectly. The rich autumnal colours of greens, purply-brown and blue sparkled in the sunlight. We flew on both days, keeping the club's K13, K21, K23 and Tim's Duo Discus busy all day. We enjoyed some ridge, weak thermals, and even a bit of wave! Squally showers stopped us eventually on both days, but not before we'd had our fun!

Putting the gliders away was equally entertaining, playing 'glider Jenga' in the hangar. Just how many gliders do you think you can fit into one small hangar? This wasn't all of them!!

Some of the club's wooden gliders were suspended from chains in the roof of the hangar, manoeuvred into position by an impressive system of jacking dollies and trollies. Other gliders, such as Tim's Duo, and the club's shiny new K21B, were slotted into position along the floor on wheels.

When we weren't flying, we chatted about our passion for gliding, and our goals for the next year or several. Liz also alluded to big developments within Women Gliding, which you'll all hear about shortly.

In the evenings, we enjoyed social meals in the clubhouse, provided by their superb new caterer. And we celebrated Tim's first 're-birthday': one year on from his cardiac arrest and resus!

We had a fabulous weekend! We can only hope that the weather is as good when we visit Sutton Bank next year (6-8th March).

Thanks so much to the Midland Gliding Club for hosting us; to everyone involved in organising the weekend; to Sarah, Nigel and Mark (instructors) for working so hard to get us all airborne, and to Tim for bringing his Duo to fly with us. We had a great time and hope to come back again!
